What Do You Need to Be Successful?
Qualifications for Success:
- Degree: Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Professional Standing: Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
- Team Collaboration: You enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with different personalities.
- Judgment and Critical Thinking: Good judgment and critical thinking in client decision-making.
- Professional Development: Demonstrated commitment to post-graduate professional development.
- Experience: Hospital experience, pediatric/adolescent work, and couples therapy experience are considered assets.
What Is a Day in the Life of a SWCG/FA Social Worker?
- Client Care: Provide assessment, counseling, and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families dealing with trauma, traumatic injury, and complex orthopedic injury.
- System Interaction: Interface with medical, legal, and insurance systems.
- Advocacy: Advocate for and connect clients with community-based resources to enhance their social and emotional well-being.
- Progress Monitoring: Monitor, evaluate, and document client progress according to treatment and care plans.
- Reporting: Provide detailed, comprehensive reports as part of the medical-legal system.
- Professional Growth: Maintain professional knowledge by attending training sessions and building personal networks.
